In-person and online sessions are typically 50 minutes long.

You do not need to prepare anything except for an open mind! The first session can seem daunting, particularly if this is your first time to speak with someone about personal issues. Your psychologist understands this and aims to create a relaxed, positive, and inclusive atmosphere.

You may bring someone with you to the appointment, but it is recommended that all individuals have private one-on-one time with their therapist to discuss individual thoughts and goals. Your psychology session is a judgment free environment that allows the greatest scope for openness and honesty, which can lead to the most beneficial outcomes.

The exception to this rule may be for those enquiring about neuropsychological services. The opinion of someone who knew you before and after your injury may be valuable to help identify or corroborate the changes you have experienced over time. This third-person perspective may be helpful but may also not be necessary and therefore should be discussed at your session with your therapist.

Just about! Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the psychology profession and is taken very seriously. Ethical guidelines with which Healthy Mind Psychology associates abide strongly support the need for high levels of security to support confidentiality. Notes about your sessions will be taken but will be kept in a secure manner as directed by governing bodies and the law. There are some limits to confidentiality that are formally regulated. All of the rules and limitations of confidentiality will be discussed with you in the first session with your therapist.
